Ridgebacks name new curling coach
The Ontario Tech Ridgebacks have announced Mike Stauffer will be taking over as head coach of its curling program.
Stauffer joins the Ridgebacks with an extensive curling resume, which saw him get inducted into the Durham College Sports Hall of Fame in 2001.
“We’re excited to have Mike join our coaching staff and build on the early success of our program,” says Ontario Tech Athletic Director Scott Barker. “While this will be an odd year for the program, we’re excited to have him get to know our student-athletes and share his curling knowledge with them as we build toward the 2021-22 season.”
As a member of the Durham Lords curling team, Stauffer won two OCAA gold medals in men’s curling as he skipped the Lords to titles in 1994-95 and 1995-96. He was also a member of the 1993-94 silver medal rink.
After his time at Durham, he continued playing, becoming a four-time club champion at Oshawa Golf & Curling Club.
He was also a participant in the Toronto men’s major league, was the junior curling coordinator at Oshawa Golf & Curling Club, coached Maxwell Heights Secondary School women’s team to an OFSSA final and competed with some of the top curlers in the country in numerous bonspiels and provincial playdowns.
