Residents urged to be vigilant as door-to-door scams on the rise
The City of Oshawa is telling residents to be vigilant about door-to-door salesman after several calls have come in regarding potential scams.
The city has been notified of a potential scam targeting community residents in the form of phone calls and individuals going door-to-door pretending to be with the City of Oshawa and asking about water pipes and water heater rentals and/or inspection.
City officials remind residents that they are not undertaking this sort of activity. Also, employees of the City of Oshawa always wear identification badges when they visit houses. Residents should contact Durham Region Police Service at 905-579-1520 and report phone calls received or individuals who do not have City of Oshawa identification badges who go door-to-door saying they are with the City of Oshawa.
Those who receive a call like this should hang up immediately and not provide any payment or personal information to the caller. Individuals who received a call like this and have a monetary loss as a result are encouraged to report it to Durham Region Police Service.
