Report: Durham Region does not need a lobbyist registrar

No lobbyist registrar is needed at the Region of Durham – at least according to a recently released report.

Presented at the last finance and administration committee meeting before the summer break, the report penned by Matt Gaskell, the region’s commissioner of corporate affairs, concludes that such a position is not needed at the region, as it would just overlap with other positions at the region, including two that are soon to be implemented.

“At this point, it is not believed that a lobbyist registrar is required for the Region of Durham as it would be a redundancy in light of existing policy measures, existing regional bylaws and soon to be implemented accountability officers with the municipal ombudsman and integrity commissioner and impending council code of conduct,” the report reads.
