Region names new works commissioner

Susan Siopis takes over role Oct. 1

region_susan_siopisThe Region of Durham will soon have a new works commissioner.

As of Oct. 1, Susan Siopis will take over the helm of the region’s works department, with the role being left vacant following the retirement of current commissioner Cliff Curtis.

For the past 13 years, Siopis has worked as the region’s director of transportation and field services, responsible for overseeing the region’s transportation infrastructure and design, construction management, traffic engineering and maintenance operations of all regional water, sewer and transportation-related infrastructure.

“I will continue to work diligently for the residents and businesses within Durham to ensure the provision of essential public works services, along with the hard-working, dedicated staff of the works department,” states Siopis in a news release.

“I’m looking forward to my new responsibilities, as well as building upon the strong foundation that is public works in Durham Region.”

“Susan’s leadership and dedication in the Works Department, is well known amongst staff and council members,” adds Garry Cubitt, the region’s chief administrative officer, in the same news release.

“She has proven herself to be a remarkable asset to the Region of Durham.”
