The region has found their new commissioner of social services.
Stella Danos-Papaconstantinou will take over the position effective Sept. 3.
“It is with great pleasure that I announce the appointment of Stella Danos-Papaconstantinou as commissioner of social services,” said CAO Elaine Baxter-Trahair. “Stella is recognized as a consummate professional, collaborator and a strong leader. She will be a great addition to the social services department and our senior leadership team.”
Danos-Papaconstantinou joins the region with more than 15 years experience in the human services sector. She presently holds the position of director of community access for Peel Region.
Danos-Papaconstantinou is a member of various boards, including the Ontario Municipal Social Services Association and the Provincial Municipal Social Assistance Employment Committee.
“I am very excited for the opportunity to work at the Region of Durham. The social services department is inclusive of the programs and services that are essential to helping people in the community thrive,” Danos-Papaconstantinou says. “My passion for this work stems from my own personal and professional experiences. I look forward to sharing those experiences and learning from others, as we continue to build on the department’s commitment to long-standing excellence in our region.”
Danos-Papaconstantinou will oversee regional programs and services, including affordable housing and homelessness initiatives, diversity within the community, early learning and child care, family services, financial empowerment and poverty reduction efforts, income and employment support, and long-term care and services for seniors.
