The Region of Durham is hosting its second public information session on proposed plans to increase capacity at the Durham York Energy Centre (DYEC)
There is a tentative proosal to increase the amount of waste processed annually at the facility by 20,000 tonnes to 160,000 tonnes per year.
The DYEC is approved to operate at this processing level, and according to regional staff, the building will not require any modification for the increase.
The region is currently completing an environmental screening process, which is subject to Ontario’s Environmental Assessment Act.
At the public information centre, representatives from the region’s study team will provide information and answer questions. For those who are unable to attend, all information will be available online at durham.ca/DYEC160k and questions can be submitted to info@DurhamYorkWaste.ca.
The information session will take place the Durham York Energy Centre, 1835 Energy Drive, on Wednesday, Oct. 23 from 5 to 8 p.m.
