Program to increase literacy tools

An Oshawa elementary school is participating in a program aimed at increasing literacy resources for students.

Northern Dancer Public School, which opened in September 2018, is part of the Indigo Love of Reading Foundation’s 11th annual Adopt-A-School Program.

Until Oct. 6, Indigo, Chapters and Coles stores in Canada will fundraise for 182 elementary schools around the country, with 100 per cent of the proceeds going to the schools.

All participating schools receive the funds through e-gift cards to support the rejuvenation and enhancement of their libraries, as well as receiving discounts.

In addition to in-store fundraising, Indigo has set up an online registry where school officials select 50 books they’d like to add to their library.

During the Adopt-A-School program, supporters can purchase books on the registry, and Indigo will donate an additional copy of the book to the school.
