Police stop suicides

A man is still alive after police stopped him from harming himself over the weekend.

At approximately 11:40 p.m. on Sunday, May 15, officers responded to an armed person call in Oshawa. According to police, the male, armed with two knives, wanted to harm himself. After he refused to come out of his home, police used a Taser to subdue and apprehend him under the Mental Health Act. Police say the male was taken to hospital, but no injuries were reported.

Just an hour earlier, police were called to a Pickering home for an attempted suicide. According to police, a 14-year-old female had tried to hang herself in the home. The first officer on scene found the girl unresponsive and began CPR until firefighters and paramedics arrived. Shortly after, the girl began breathing again and was taken to hospital.
