After locating a pair of shoes near the Oshawa Harbour thought to belong to missing 27-year-old Cameron Bailie, Durham police have intensified their search efforts for the missing Oshawa man.

According to DRPS spokesperson Dave Selby, the shoes were located by a passerby near the harbour who then reported them to police.

“We were able to confirm with a high degree of certainty that they are his shoes,” Selby says.

Bailie has been missing since Jan. 10, when he left his Oxford Street home in the middle of the day, appearing to leave his phone, bank card and winter jacket behind. He hasn’t been seen or heard from since, something his family have noted to police is concerning and out of character for him.

Bailie’s disappearance has ignited a local search effort as relatives, friends and local residents are banding together on social media to coordinate search efforts.

“We would never discourage family or loved ones from lending a hand. The more eyes and ears out there, the better,” Selby says. “As long as they work with us. It’s great to see people volunteering and helping out as long as it works with our efforts.”

On Jan. 19, auxiliary officers were in the Oxford Street area canvassing for further clues and information.

“I know people have looked before and I know we’ve already gone down there and searched, but we’re going to have more people doing it today (Jan. 19). So we’re just going to continue to expand that search effort,” Selby says.

Bailie is described as white, six feet tall with a medium build, blue eyes, and short brown hair with a goatee.

Anyone who knows Bailie’s location is asked to call their local police service. Within Durham Region, call 1-888-579-1520 ext. 1736.

Anonymous tips can be made to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or on the website at www.durhamregionalcrimestoppers.ca and tipsters are eligible for a cash reward of up to $2,000.
