A Pickering man is facing numerous charges after attempting to flee from a traffic stop in Oshawa.
On March 1, at approximately 12:30 a.m., members of Central East Division attempted to stop the driver of a vehicle near Harmony Road and Olive Avenue in Oshawa after they observed the vehicle weaving in and out of the lanes.
The suspect failed to stop for officers and entered Highway 401 westbound at a high rate of speed.
Uniform officers discontinued the pursuit due to safety concerns.
DRPS police helicopter Air1 continued to follow the vehicle into the Scarborough area. The driver of the vehicle fled on foot near Jeffton Cresent and left the vehicle behind with two occupants.
Helicopter staff located the suspect trying to hide from officers. He was taken into custody. The passengers were released unconditionally.
The 24-year-old man from Pickering faces numerous charges including possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, flight from police, and driving while under suspension. He was held for a bail hearing.
