Pedestrian struck while crossing the road

A 64-year-old pedestrian was seriously injured after being struck by a vehicle while crossing the road in Oshawa.

Durham police were called to the scene of a collision involving a female pedestrian at the intersection of Dean Avenue and Hillcrest Drive. The pedestrian, who was walking her dog, was struck by a dark Kia vehicle when she crossed the roadway.

The pedestrian was transported by ambulance to a Toronto-area trauma centre with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the Kia, a 55-year-old Oshawa male, remained at the scene and cooperated with police. He was charged with driving in breach of prohibited conditions under the Highway Traffic Act.

The roadway was closed for several hours while officers conducted their investigation.
