Oshawa picks up Midget B championship at Ontario Lacrosse Festival

The largest youth lacrosse event in the province was capped off with a win by a local team.

The Ontario Lacrosse Festival took over Oshawa and Durham Region for the past two weeks.

Kicking off on Friday, Aug. 3, the festival came to a close on Sunday, Aug. 12

The festival hosts more than 500 teams and nearly 10,000 athletes between the ages of six and 21 competing for 42 provincial and national lacrosse championships.

Oshawa was well represented in the week-long festival.

The Novice B team began their climb to the top with 7-5 and 6-3 victories over Orillia and Niagara respectively on Friday, Aug. 10.

The following day, the team earned a spot in the playoffs with a 6-2 victory over Newmarket. Later on, they rolled over West Durham 11-4 to reach the semi-finals.

On the final day of the tournament, they got a close win over Gloucester 4-3 to earn a spot in the championship match.

Things went full circle as Oshawa faced off against their original opponents Orilla, and came through with a 6-3 win and the division title.

In the Tyke A division, Oshawa picked up wins over Clarington, Sarnia, and St. Catharines, before bowing out to Orangeville in the first round of the playoffs.

The local entry into the Tyke C division picked up an 8-6 victory over Hamilton before dropping games to Northumberland and Niagara to miss the playoffs.

The two Oshawa Novice teams each picked up one victory but failed to move on past the round robin.

In the Pee Wee C division, Oshawa scored four straight victories to reach the semi-finals before falling to Hamilton 8-3.

In the Intermediate C division, Oshawa came up short and failed to reach the playoff round.

Games were hosted at a number of venues across the region including the Legends Centre, Children’s Arena and Harmon Park in Oshawa.
