It was a wild finish for the Oshawa Junior Legionaries as they captured the provincial Eliminations championship this past weekend.

Oshawa was originally set to play Mississauga in the tournament final on the Monday of the Civic holiday weekend but the game was washed out by heavy rains.

The teams reconvened at Kinsmen Stadium on Saturday, April. 11

Oshawa jumped off to a 3-0 lead on the strength of a two-run single by Jake Legros and an RBI double by Sam Cawker.

They added another run in the second to go up 4-0.

After coasting the first two innings, Mississauga put up six runs in the bottom of the third inning to go ahead 7-5, but Dadson and Ryley Davenport came through with RBI singles to tie things up again.

The two teams would trade runs until Mississauga took a 9-8 lead into the top of the seventh, where Brian Wowk used to his speed to stop a potential double play, driving in the tying run in the process.

After blanking Mississauga in the bottom of the seventh, Oshawa’s Connor May hit a clutch two-out single to put the hometown team on top.

Chase Porter would pitch a scoreless eighth inning to give the Legionaries the win.

Both teams have earned a spot in the 2018 Men’s National Baseball Championship Aug. 15 to Aug. 19 in St. Thomas, Ont.
