Oshawa Fire Services is one of 15 departments across the country to receive funding for a home fire sprinkler community outreach program.
With support from The Co-operators and the Canadian Automatic Sprinkler Association (CASA), the non-profit Home Fire Sprinkler Coalition (HFSC) awarded 13 $500 stipends and two $1,000 stipends to 15 Canadian fire departments across Canada to support the events.
Fire departments can use the stipends to build or refurbish and conduct a fire and sprinkler side-by-side demonstration, build a home fire sprinkler display, or create an educational banner.
Due to the evolving COVID-19 pandemic, stipend rules were modified to allow fire departments to host a virtual event, conduct a Facebook Live event, or boost social media messages.
Only fire departments that participate in HFSC’s free Built for Life Fire Department program were allowed to apply for the stipends. The program provides free resources and material.
Currently, 3,208 fire departments participate in the program, 134 of which are from Canada.
The HFSC is a non-profit education organization focused solely on education outreach and is the leading resource for independent, non-commercial information about home fire sprinklers.
