While most students are getting ready for their holiday break, the UOIT women’s curling is getting set to head overseas.

The team will be taking part in the World Curling Tour’s (WCT) Lely Demfries Challenger Series in Scotland from Dec. 18 through Dec. 20.

The UOIT curling team includes Riley Weagant, Leslyee Igbinosun, Kathleen McLaughlin, Cassandra Bolt and Brittany Andrey.

The event will take place in Dumfries, Scotland. The WCT bonspiel will feature 15 women’s teams in three pools of five. They will play roundrobin games within their pool to advance to the quarter-finals.

This is the first time a Ridgebacks team has competed in a WCT event and outside of North America.

“We’re very excited to gain some valuable experience as we prepare for a busy second half of the season,” states Debbie Fischer, the team’s head coach, in a news release. “We will see some tough competition, but we expect to be competitive and look to make it out of pool play and into the quarter-finals. Once you’re there, anything can happen.”
