Oshawa battling for U15 boys baseball supremacy

Canada’s best baseball players under 15 have arrived in Oshawa.

The Baseball Canada U15 Boys Ray Carter Cup Championship will kick off Thursday, Aug. 23 and roll on through Sunday, Aug. 26.

The tournament will feature teams from 10 provinces and host Oshawa 15U Legionaires.

The Legionaries have had an impressive year so far, amassing a 16-2 record in Elite Baseball League of Ontario play, and capturing first place the league’s U15 showcase in Toronto.

The team was dominant in capturing first place, outscoring their opponents by more than a three-to-one ratio over five games.

The team also recently had eleven members of the Eastern Ontario Baseball Association entry at the Ontario Summer Games in London.

In a interview with The Oshawa Express earlier this year, head coach Geoff Whent said the priority for this year was preparing the team for this weekend.

Things kick off at Kinsmen Stadium at 8:30 a.m. on Aug. 23 with a game between New Brunswick and Manitoba.

The opening ceremonies take place at 6 p.m., followed by Oshawa’s first game against Quebec.
