Non-residential construction down from 2015

$98,795 million in investments last quarter

While there was more money invested in non-residential building construction in the third quarter of 2015 compared to earlier this year, numbers are still lower than they were a year ago.

According to new information from Statistics Canada, there was $98.795 million of investment in this sector in the Oshawa census metropolitan area – which also includes Whitby and Clarington – in the third quarter of 2016. This is the highest numbers seen so far this year, with $94.344 million in the first quarter and $91.545 million in the second quarter.

However, this represents a drop from the numbers seen in 2015, with the third quarter of the year seeing $106.496 million in investments. From year to year, this represents a drop of 7.2 per cent.

Numbers were lower across the country, with $12.51 billion in investments in the third quarter, down from $12.58 billion. The third quarter of 2015 saw $12.87 billion in investments.
