The excessive growl of modified mufflers has one Oshawa resident looking to councillors to hit the mute button.
Bill Shepherd says the rumble of modified mufflers is not only disruptive to the quality of life for Oshawa residents, but it’s also a safety concern.
The owner of two motorcycles, Shepherd told the corporate services committee that the loud noise can drown out the sound of other traffic for motorcycle operators, making them unaware to their surroundings.
These vehicles also pose a problem for enforcing the city’s excessive noise bylaw.
“A motorcycle or a car is moving, so you can’t just call and have a noise complaint,” Shepherd said.
Councillors referred the item back to staff for a report on any legislative changes that could be made or possible recommendationst to be passed on to the province.
