An Oshawa mother and her boyfriend have been charged in connection with the death of the women’s child almost two years ago.
The eight-month-old boy, identified by police as Kaleb McKay, was found dead at an apartment on Robson Street in Oshawa on Dec. 29, 2016.
Officers had been called to the apartment around 8:10 p.m. and found the baby not breathing.
He was later pronounced dead by paramedics on the scene.
A post-mortem was conducted, and the cause of death ruled as a homicide.
On July 6, Durham Police announced the mother’s boyfriend, a 25-year-old Oshawa man, has been charged with second-degree murder, aggravated assault and assault causing bodily harm.
The boy’s mother, 26, also of Oshawa, faces a charge of manslaughter.
Both of the accused made court appearances on July 6.
Durham Police say the investigation continues and anyone with information is asked call 1-888-579-1520 and speak with Det. Moore (ext. 5326) or Det. Dorego (ext. 5319).
