More than 260 COVID cases reported in Durham over weekend

Durham Region Health reported more than 260 cases of COVID-19 over the weekend, bringing the total active cases across Durham to 1,294.

There were 128 cases reported Sunday, April 4, and 134 cases reported on Saturday, April 3.

Of the total active cases, 1,239 are in home isolation, and 55 are in hospital with 14 in the ICU.

Oshawa reported 59 new cases over the weekend – 33 on Saturday and 26 on Sunday.

There are currently 274 active cases in Oshawa. Of those, 262 are in home isolation, and 12 are in hospital with three in the ICU.

There has also been one recent death in Oshawa, which was reported on April 1 and was the only reported death in Durham in the last seven days.

Furthermore, there are 107 active variant cases of COVID-19, bringing the total variant cases (confirmed or screened positive) in Durham to 1,922.

Durham Public Health is currently moving in Phase 2 of the province’s vaccination plan and vaccinations will be based on age and risk factors, according to the health department.

The current priority groups in Durham include adults 65 years of age and older, all Indigenous adults and adult household members, those with health conditions, starting with Highest-Risk and High-Risk heath conditions, and those living in high-risk congregate settings.

Vaccination clinics are open across the region, with at least one clinic in east municipality. The mobile clinic is also available, and some local pharmacies are vaccinating as well.

There are 19 pharmacies in Durham Region that are now offering the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine.
