Members needed for election audit committee

Durham Region is seeking applications from qualified individuals to serve on its compliance audit committee for the 2018 municipal elections.

The committee will consider the validity of requests for audits for campaign finances of candidates for the position of Regional Chair.

Selected members may also be called upon to serve on the compliance audit committees for the City of Oshawa, City of Pickering, Town of Whitby and the Durham District School Board. The term will run concurrently with that of regional council (Dec. 1, 2018 to Nov. 30, 2022).

In accordance with the Municipal Elections Act, the region is required to establish a compliance audit committee prior to Oct. 1 in an election year.

Applicants will be judged on their knowledge of municipal elections, including campaign financing regulations, analytical and decision-making skills, experience working on committees, task forces or a similar setting, oral and writing skills, and availability and willingness to attend meetings

Preference will also be given to individuals with backgrounds in accounting, law, auditing, municipal elections, and academics from related fields.
