A potentially deadly situation was resolved successfully by Durham police on Oct. 29 when a male armed with two knives attempted to get police to shoot him.
DRPS officers were called to the area of Harmony Road and Bloor Street East in Oshawa on Oct 29 after a citizen called 911 to advise that a male was armed with two large knives and wanted police to shoot him.
During the incident, officers were able to build a rapport with the man and he eventually dropped the knives and was taken into custody without incident. There were no injuries sustained during the interaction with police.
A 31-year-old male was apprehended under the Mental Health Act and taken to hospital for assessment.
