A 31-year-old man has been arrested after throwing a Molotov cocktail and starting a fire at his neighbour’s house.
On May 27, around 8:45 p.m., Durham police responded with fire services to a home near Wolfe Street and Simcoe Street in Oshawa for a fire at a residence. The fire, which was set by the suspect, was quickly extinguished by neighbours. The suspect fled back to his residence next door, where he refused to come out for police.
Uniform officers and investigators, with the assistance of the Tactical Support Unit, eventually took the suspect into custody after a lengthy negotiation. Police executed a search warrant and seized numerous imitation firearms, a quantity of incendiary devices and materials from inside the residence.
A 31-year-old Oshawa man has been charged with arson with disregard for human life and damage of property, five counts of possession of incendiary devices, and attempted arson. He was held for a bail hearing.
