Majority of beaches open in Durham
Those looking to cool off in the hot weather will have a few places to choose from across the Durham Region.
According to the most recent information from the Durham Region Health Department, only four of Durham’s 14 beaches are posted as unsafe to swim in.
A beach is posted as unsafe to swim when bacteria, specifically E. coli, are elevated above standards set by the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-term Care.
The four beaches posted are Beaverton Beach South in Brock, Kinsmen Beach in Scugog, Newcastle Beach Central in Clarington and Whitby Beach.
Due to conditions caused by elevated water levels, Lakeview Beach West in Oshawa hasn’t been tested.
