Loaded gun found during police stop

An Oshawa man is one of two charged after a firearm was seized during a police stop in Whitby.

On Sunday, Sept. 9, at about 1:30 a.m., members of Central West Division stopped a vehicle making an illegal U-turn on a red light and investigated the two male occupants at Victoria Street and Brock Street South in Whitby. A subsequent search was conducted and a loaded handgun was seized along with ammunition.

A 44-year-old man of  Adelaide Avenue in Oshawa, is charged with possession of a prohibited firearm; possession of a prohibited firearm no licence; possession prohibited firearm knowing no licence; occupy motor vehicle with loaded prohibited firearm; careless storage, and transport prohibited. He was held for a bail hearing.
