Helicopter helps police nab suspects

Three suspects were arrested after trying to flee from police in a stolen pick-up truck in Oshawa.

On Sept. 16, at approximately 2:30 a.m., an officer spotted a pick-up truck traveling without any lights near Harmony Road and Olive Street in Oshawa. As the officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop, the vehicle failed to stop and did a U-turn. The driver then drove off at a high rate of speed onto the westbound lanes of the 401. The suspect exited on to Thickson Road where he traveled southbound in the northbound lanes at a high rate of speed, even hitting a curb.

Police helicopter Air1 assisted with following the vehicle; they advised that the stolen vehicle stopped on Connery Crescent in Oshawa.

Three suspects were observed running from the stolen vehicle. Air1 was instrumental in directing officers to a wooded area where one suspect was located hiding in a dense brush area. Subsequent investigation resulted in the other two suspects being arrested. Police located a quantity of drugs and an imitation handgun.
