GRANT, Thomas Henry ‘Harry’ GRANT, Thomas Henry ‘Harry’

Harry was born on April 28, 1928 in Banbridge, County Down, Northern Ireland. Harry was the third child born to William and Rachel (Carson) Grant. He was a special brother to Arthur, (deceased) Betty, (deceased) Bobby, (deceased) James, Sam, Leta, George, (deceased) and Jean. Before immigrating to Canada in 1949, he was employed as a young teenager at Walkers linen mill. On arriving in Toronto at age 21 he was employed by the T. Eaton Company. Three months later he moved to Oshawa where he was employed by General Motors Canada for 38 years. Harry was married to Shirley Hansel on May 9, 1953 and they were blessed with four daughters: Maureen, (Doug Ord, deceased) Kathleen, Mary Ann, (Bill Lippman) and Ruth (Mark White). Harry was a child at heart and his beloved grandchildren Heather McLean, (Andrew) Sarah Schaefer, (Jeff) Colleen Quernemoen, (Patrick) Ben White, (Brittany) and Jessica Scott (Thomas) allowed him to once again enjoy the experience of life through a child’s eye. They have given him six beautiful great-grandchildren Ian, Fiona, and Isobel McLean, Theodora and Genevieve Schaeffer and Emma Quernemoen. For 65 years Harry faithfully worshipped and served at Calvary Baptist Church. Being a real people-person he reveled in the company of young and old alike. His life was enriched by the beauty of nature, music, art and literature. Many carefree hours were spent cycling through Oshawa’s streets and bike paths. At the end of his days he would give thanks to God for His faithfulness and that he was leaving this life with no regrets.
