Grant for Special Olympics approved
Dipping further into their additional grant funds, the city’s finance committee has approved $5,000 to aid the Special Olympics being hosted throughout the city this summer.
Special Olympics Ontario will be hosting its provincial championships June 1 and 2 at the Civic Recreation Complex, Legends Centre and Durham College and will see more than 800 athletes and coaches involved.
If approved by council, the funds would help support the waiving of certain city fees for the use of facilities.
The $5,000 is a part of an additional $20,000 set aside at budget time for future grant requests received by the city.
The contingency now has $10,000 remaining for 2016.
