By Chris Jones/The Oshawa Express

Hoping to continue their climb up the standings, the Gens began a three game road trip against the Barrie Colts on Thursday, Dec. 6.

Taking on the Mississauga Steelheads on Friday, Dec. 7, the Gens were hoping they could continue their winning ways.

The Gens came out strong in the first period against the Steelheads, with Jack Studnicka tapping one in after a slick pass from behind the net from Serron Noel to give the Gens an early lead.

Just over two minutes later, Allan McShane would add to the Gens lead after a pass in front of the net.

Ryan McLeod would put one in for the Steelheads, making the score 2-1 at the end of the first period.

After a quiet second, Mississauga entered the third period ready to play, as Liam Ham tied the game up only 40 seconds into the period.

Not even half a minute later, the Steelheads scored again, with Nicholas Canade giving them a 3-2 lead.

Mississauga would add one more in the third to make the final score 4-2, saddling the Gens with the loss.

The Gens were outshot by a margin of 39 to 29, and gave up one goal on the penalty kill, while also killing off another five.

Studnicka was named the third star of the game for the Gens after scoring his 12th goal on the season.

In earlier action, the Gens took on the Barrie Colts at the Barrie Molson Centre on Dec. 6.

The Gens started the game off strong with the recently acquired Anthony Salinitri scoring his first goal since being traded to the team. He scored the goal in front of the Colts net after tipping it off of a Barrie player.

Tyler Tullio then snuck it past Colts goalie Kai Edmonds, further adding to their lead, making it 2-0 to end the first period.

While the Gens were held off of the scoreboard in the second, Jacob Tortora was able to cut into the Gens lead with a powerplay goal, making it 2-1 to end the period.

Three and a half minutes into the third, Kyle MacLean added Oshawa’s lead, with one barely squeaking past Edmonds, making the score 3-1 for the Gens.

In the dying minutes of the game, Edmonds was pulled to give the Colts a man advantage. However, Noel was able to make it past the Colts defense to score an empty net goal, giving Oshawa a 4-1 victory.

The Gens outshot Barrie 26 to 22 after holding them to only four shots in the first period.

Despite going on the penalty kill seven times, the Gens only allowed one goal.

The Gens will come home to take on the Hamilton Bulldogs on Friday, Dec. 14 at 7:35 p.m. at the Tribute Communities Centre.

They will then take on the Niagara IceDogs on the road the next night, while then coming home on Sunday, Dec. 16 to play the Guelph Storm at 6:05 p.m.
