Generals start the season in an offensive surge

By Joel Wittnebel/The Oshawa Express

The summer break doesn’t appear to have slowed down the Oshawa Generals, who came out flying in their first two games of the season toppling both opponents in a big way.

The Oshawa club is currently in the midst of a series of road games to start their 2017/2018 season, and on Sept. 22, the club opened the year against the Sudbury Wolves.

They wasted no time getting on the scoreboard as Latvian import Renars Krastenbergs put up the first goal of the year only 45 seconds into the game. Captain Jack Studnicka would add another in the first to take the Gens into the second period up 2-0.

The team would cruise to a 8-2 victory, made in part by a hatrick from 16-year-old Nick Wong in his first Ontario Hockey League game.

Studnicka would also had another goal and a pair of assists in the game, with the scoresheet being rounded out by goals from Kenny Heuther and Serron Noel.

The next day, the offensive dominance would continue as the team travelled to Sault Ste. Marie to take on the Greyhounds.

This time, it would be Noel leading the charge, tallying a hattrick of his own in the eventual 7-4 victory.

Heuther would also add a pair of goals, along with tallies from Alex Di Carlo, Mason Kohn and Allan McShane, who also managed seven assists in the first two games.

The 15 goal performance over the two games tops the entire offensive output in the team’s preseason, which saw them put up 13 goals in four games.

The Gens will take on the Peterborough Petes tomorrow (Sept. 28) followed by the Guelph Storm on Sept. 29 before their home opener against the London Knights on Oct. 1.
