More than 1,000 vehicles were pulled over by Durham police during the first week of its annual Festive R.I.D.E. program.
The first week saw checks all throughout Durham Region, seeing more cars pulled over than the same time last year.
From the 1,165 cars pulled over, 21 receives three-day suspensions, three novice drivers received a 24-hour suspension for have blood-alcohol content above zero, 12 were charged with drinking and driving offences, 17 were hit with Criminal Code charges and 21 were charged with offences under the Highway Traffic Act.
Those who were charged with drinking and driving offences face a 90-day licence suspension and having their vehicle impounded for one week.
The Festive R.I.D.E. program will continue until early January.
