Durham District School Board addresses rumours of high schools closing

Durham District School Board officials were quick to point out there are no plans to close three area high schools, including GL Roberts Collegiate and Vocational Institute.

At a recent board standing committee meeting, there were discussions about declining enrolment at the school along with Henry Street High School in Whitby and Brock High School.

“DDSB Trustees created the Group of Three committee as a pro-active measure to address the situation of secondary schools experiencing declining enrolment,” a media release states.

“The DDSB brought together stakeholders groups to look at ways we can creatively invest in further initiatives, programs and supports to help bolster enrolment while continuing to offer innovative leading-edge programming for our students.”

Despite declining enrolment, the media release reads, “empathically state that there are no plans, nor have there ever been any plans, to close any of these three schools.”
