Dentists victims of fraud

An Oshawa woman is facing several charges after several dentists throughout the Greater Toronto Area were defrauded of thousands of dollars.

According to police, two Pickering dentists filed a fraud complaint against their office manager in July 2015. An investigation by the Major Crime Fraud Unit found that since April 2013, the suspect had stolen cheques from dental patients that were payable to the dentists, putting them into her own bank account. Police allege the suspect also stole cash payments.

The investigation also turned up five other dentists in the Brampton area that were victims of fraud. Police say that since September 2009, the suspect defrauded seven dentists of more than $160,000, as well as stealing nearly $50,000 in cash deposits.

A 39-year-old female of Artania Street in Oshawa has been charged with seven counts of fraud over $5,000, two counts of theft over $5,000, three counts of fraud under $5,000, three counts of using forged document and one count of forgery.
