Cops buying new vehicles

Ahead of the 2017 budget, Durham police have received the go ahead to purchase some new vehicles that will replace some of those reaching the end of their life.

According to a report presented at the Durham Police Services Board, the force will be spending nearly $1.7 million to purchase 49 new vehicles. The purchase is coming in ahead of the budget being approved as “the new car orders need to be placed with the manufacturers prior to regional council’s 2017 budget approval in order to ensure the vehicles are produced for late spring delivery,” according to the report.

In total, DRPS is set to purchase 35 marked vehicles, 13 unmarked vehicles and one tandem cargo and boat trailer.
