Coe named to PC caucus

Lorne Coe, the newly elected MPP for Whitby-Oshawa, has been named the Progressive Conservative Party’s critic on training, colleges and universities. Coe is taking over the position from party leader Patrick Brown.

Fresh off his byelection victory, Whitby-Oshawa MPP Lorne Coe has been given a critic’s position with the Progressive Conservatives.

Coe will now sit as the PC’s critic on training, colleges and universities. The position had previously been held by party leader Patrick Brown, who also sits as the party’s education critic.

“This portfolio will also allow me to better serve my constituents and the people of Durham Region,” Coe states in a news release. “The region is home to Durham College, the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT), and Trent University’s Durham campus.”

“When I took on the role as critic for education and training, colleges and universities, it was because I recognized the fundamental role they play in shaping Ontario’s future success.” states Brown in the same news release. “Working with MPP Coe on the byelection campaign, I saw first-hand his passion for education issues. He fervently believes that the choices we make in how we educate our young adults is what will return Ontario as Canada’s economic engine, and he will devote himself entirely to this portfolio.”
