An Oshawa man is facing several charges after a car chase led police across much of Durham Region.
At approximately 1:40 a.m. on Wednesday, March 16, an officer spotted a car driving erratically near Wentworth and Simcoe streets in Oshawa. The officer attempted to pull the vehicle over, but the driver refused to stop. More officers were called in as the vehicle made its way north on Ritson Road, through side streets and south on Harmony Road before heading on to the westbound lanes of Highway 401.
The vehicle exited the highway at Westney Road in Ajax. After driving through a parking lot, the vehicle was boxed in by cruisers at Magill Drive.
Police needed a Taser to arrest the suspect, as he was resisting arrest and struggling with officers.
Both the driver and a male passenger in the vehicle were taken to hospital with minor injuries.
A 38-year-old Oshawa male has been charged with two counts each of prohibited driving and driving while under suspension, and one count each of operating a motor vehicle while impaired by drugs, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, failure to stop for police and failure to comply with an undertaking.
