Burns named K-9 unit officer of the year

The Durham Regional Police has found its top K-9 unit officer for 2017, as Det. Cst. Jeff Burns recently accepted the honour from DRPS Chief Paul Martin.

According to DRPS, Burns is well known among his K-9 peers for his positive attitude and great work ethic, taking a lead role in training and equipment management along with handling the unit’s Instagram account. Together with his partner Riot, Burns has conducted a number of significant tracks and arrests during his time with the unit.

The K-9 Unit was formed in 1990 and this award is handed out annually in honour of founding member retired D/Cst. Peter Van Der Duim.
