Blood donors needed

Canadian Blood Services in Oshawa is requesting that new and existing blood donors book an appointment before or immediately after the Victoria Day long weekend.

“Holidays and long weekends tend to be a difficult time for the blood system,” says territory manager Jennifer Mathieu. “While blood donations traditionally decrease because people are away on holidays or busy with family activities, the demand for blood usually increases due in part to an increase in trauma cases such as car accidents.”

There are still more than 700 lifesaving appointments to fill in Oshawa before the end of the month.

The Oshawa blood donor centre is located at 1300 Harmony Road North and is open Mondays and Tuesdays (including Victoria Day) from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Thursdays from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., Fridays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

To find a centre location and to book an appointment, donors can go with the new GiveBlood app and online at the blood.ca website.
