Biker seriously injured

A New Lowell man was seriously injured after running a stop-sign and being hit by an SUV.

Police were called to the area of Thornton Road and Winchester Road shortly before 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 12 for a motor vehicle accident. At the scene, police found a motorcycle driver on the ground in the middle of the road.

According to witnesses on the scene, a blue Yamaha motorcycle was heading north when it ran the stop sign at Thornton and was hit by an eastbound grey Dodge Journey.

The biker, a 21-year-old New Lowell man, sustained serious injuries and was taken to a local hospital before being transferred to a Toronto-area trauma centre.

The SUV’s occupants, a 43-year-old female driver and an 11-year-old passenger, were uninjured.
