The Oshawa area saw a substantial increase in building permits in February, according to Statistics Canada.
According to the agency’s latest numbers, there were 211 permits for dwellings issued in the Oshawa census metropolitan area – which also includes Whitby and Clarington – in February, up from 131 the month before.
Those permits were worth just under $73 million, nearly triple that of January’s $24.18 million.
This is also an increase from the year before, with 43 permits worth $12.4 million in February 2015.
While the numbers weren’t as high across the country, Canada did see a boost in building permits in February, with $7.4 billion in permits being issued – a 15.5 per cent increase over January.
