Beaches remain open

For the second straight week, the water at both of Oshawa’s beaches is safe to swim in.

According to a release from the region’s health department, weekly tests conducted at Lakeview East and Lakeview West beaches turned up E. coli numbers at an acceptable level. If tests find 100 E. coli or more per 100 mL of water, the beach is posted, meaning the water is not safe to swim in.

Two beaches in Durham Region have been posted – Brock’s Beaverton Beach South and Scugog’s Kinsmen Beach.

The health department would like to remind residents not to swim in beach waters for at least 48 hours after a heavy rainfall, as bacteria levels can increase due to run-off.
