Arrest made in January assault

Durham police have arrested a suspect in connection with a serious assault on a downtown street earlier this year.

At approximately 7 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 3, police received a call about a man lying on Simcoe Street South. When officers arrived on scene, they saw the man, 41, staggering around Simcoe and Elm Street. While he was initially uncooperative, he was eventually taken to hospital where it was found that he suffered a serious head injury.

At first, the male did not remember what happened, but later recalled that an unknown person hit him on the head with a pipe.

The victim continues to recover from his injuries.

A 37-year-old male of Blue Heron Drive in Oshawa has been charged with aggravated assault and assault with a weapon.
