Arrest after chase in Brock
An Oshawa teen is facing charges following a police chase in Brock Township.
At approximately 9:10 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 5, an officer headed south on Highway 7/12 clocked an approaching vehicle driving more than double the speed limit, going 176 km/h in an 80 km/h. The officer activated his roof lights and did a U-turn to go after the vehicle. However, the speeding car accelerated away, and the officer did not pursue. Instead, he checked nearby properties, later finding the car unoccupied at a rural property on Brock Concession Road 7.
At the scene, a K-9 unit tracked the car’s occupants for 1.5 kilometres before hearing them in the dense woods. One of the dogs, Storm, was able to nab one of the suspects. Two others were arrested by officers nearby.
The two passengers were later released without charges, one of which received medical attention for a minor bite wound. The suspect vehicle has been impounded for seven days.
An 18-year-old male of Rossland Road East in Oshawa has been charged with dangerous driving, flight from police and racing a motor vehicle in connection with this incident.
