Annual FanCon underway virtually

Oshawa Public Libraries’ (OPL) annual FanCon event will continue until Friday with a twist.

This year, the event is happening online until Nov. 6 and each day will bring something new, from virtual visits and specially themed story times, to fandom craft tutorials and more.

Special guests joining to help celebrate the fifth annual event include J. Torres, author of graphic novel Planet Hickey; Sam Noir and Andrew Dorland, authors of Ballyskillen: An Augmented Reality Modern Fantasy Comic Book; Wattpad star, L.D. Crichton, author of All our Broken Pieces; Shawn Daley, Ringo Award nominated cartoonist; Ricky Lima, author and bookmaker; and Steven Andrews, writer and production editor for TO Comix Press.

This year, people (and their pets) are encouraged to enter the cosplay contest on Instagram for a chance to win a $50 Petsmart gift card for pets in costume, or a $50 Indigo gift card for a costume. To enter, participants can tag their cosplay photos on Instagram with @oshawalibraries and #OPLFFanCon. Photos may also be sent directly by email to jclark@oshawalibrary.on.ca.
