What is truly unaffordable?

Dear Editor,

If Mr. Shalapata appears to be saying socialist programs are unaffordable let’s look for some reasons why.

One needs to look no further than the billions of dollars sitting in offshore accounts collecting dust. It’s dead money that rightly belongs to the ordinary taxpayers, money that would go a long way towards paying social benefits. Mr. Shalapata doesn’t want to talk about that.

As for lower hydro rates? I wouldn’t open that can of worms. As the former chair and co-chair for the Public Power Action Coalition, not one of your candidates had the guts to attend one of our forums and let the public know how your party was going to clean up the hydro mess they created and opened the door for private power and ended public power at cost.

I seem to recall, and not that long ago, our business leaders committed the biggest financial meltdown since the Great Depression, which cost taxpayers trillions of dollars and cost millions of workers their jobs, their homes and life savings. Then these temporary socialists lined up at the banks and raked in billions of dollars of taxpayer money and laughed all the way back to the bank they had looted and then had a big party on taxpayer money.

So we can’t afford social programs, but we can afford to bail out businesses because of their own greed. Who’s the nanny now? Enjoy another beer.
