What happened to South Oshawa?

Re: “Who should take the lead on South Oshawa?” Nov. 18, 2015-11-19

Dear Editor,

I grew up in the south end of Oshawa. I lived on Tremblay Street, and I went to MSGR Philip Coffee school, Lake Vista – which is now Cannon School – and GL Roberts. When we were growing up, there were things to do in Lake Vista Park. There was a lacrosse bowl. That bowl was packed every weekend with people playing pick-up hockey there. I remember a bunch of us shovelling the snow so that we can play. That is gone. There was a teen dance every Friday night in the Lake Vista Club house. Now, there is no more.
South Oshawa has gone from bad to worse. Those apartment building on the corner of Cedar And Wentworth, they were fantastic when they were new nice places to live. I had friends that lived there. Now, those buildings are a joke. People are paying prime rate for substandard units.
The building at 275 Wentworth was a dump when I was growing up. It should have been condemned about 30 years ago.
I am proud to be a South Oshawaen. The city and the region should get off the high horse and bring South Oshawa back to being a very nice place to live. The city is scared to improve the city, especially the south. The Express also did a story right next to the South Oshawa story, saying that north Oshawa is getting a new school. The city is more focused on the north end than the south. All parts of the city should be on the same playing field, not just one part. Don’t forget that the citizens of South Oshawa also pay property taxes and feel that they should get the same treatment.
