UOIT sports set for new seasons
Varsity sports are set to get underway at UOIT this fall and dates have been set for both hockey and soccer.
The OUA women’s soccer season will kick-off in Oshawa at Vaso’s Field on Friday, Aug. 26 when the Ridgebacks host the Ottawa Gee-Gees. It will be a battle between two of the top defensive teams in the league as UOIT and Ottawa allowed seven and eight goals against respectively last season.
The men’s home opener is slated for Saturday, Sept. 10 and will be an OUA quarter-final rematch as the Ridgebacks host the Queen’s Gaels. The two teams will square off twice during the regular season, with the Ridgebacks heading to Kingston on Wednesday, Oct. 5.
Both the men’s and women’s teams finish off regular season play in Peterborough as they match up against the Trent Excalibur on Saturday, Oct. 22.
On the hockey side of things, the UOIT men’s hockey team will look to build on its first ever playoff series win, while the women will look to get back to the postseason when their 2016-17 seasons get underway Oct. 7 and Oct. 15 respectively.
For the men, they open the regular season on the road in Ottawa, the Gee-Gees home opener and return to Oshawa on Friday, Oct. 7.
In their first weekend at home, the Ridgebacks will host Laurentian on Friday, Oct. 14 at 7:30 p.m. and Nipissing on Saturday, Oct. 15 at 3:30 p.m. at the Campus Ice Centre.
The women also start their campaign on the road against the York Lions on Oct. 15, before hosting their home opener the following day against Nipissing on Oct. 16. Puck drop against the Lakers is 3:30 p.m.
