Unemployment rate up

More people in the Oshawa area are out of work, according to new data from Statistics Canada.

According to the latest numbers released by the federal number crunchers, the Oshawa census metropolitan area – which also includes Clarington and Whitby – saw a seasonally adjusted unemployment rate of 8.2 per cent, up from 7.7 per cent the month before. That number equates to approximately 16,600 people that are out of work, up from 15,500 the month before.

This number marks an increase from years past, with a seasonally adjusted unemployment rate of 7.6 per cent in September 2014 and 6.2 per cent in September 2013.

Nationally, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate ticked up slightly, hitting 6.9 per cent last month, up from 6.8 per cent the month before.
