Unemployment down in Oshawa

There are less people out of work than a month ago, according to new numbers from Statistics Canada.

In the Oshawa Census Metropolitan Area, which also includes Whitby and Clarington, the unadjusted unemployment rate was 8.2 per cent, down from 8.6 per cent last month, representing approximately 600 more people being employed in October than September.

That number is still higher than the busier summer months, when the unadjusted unemployment rate was closer to 7.5 per cent.

The number of people out of work across the country was down as well, with approximately 44,000 more people being employed last month than in September.

A news release from Statistics Canada announcing the new job numbers credits the boost in job numbers to temporary ones created by the federal election.
