Two accidents, two sets of charges

Durham police had their hands full after two separate single-vehicle accidents led to charges being laid in each incident.

The first occurred at approximately 9:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 25. Police saw a red Cadillac SUV was seen driving erratically in Oshawa without its lights on. When an officer attempted to stop the vehicle, it continued to speed down the road, running a stop sign at the intersection of Athabasca and King streets.

Shortly afterwards, the vehicle went off the road and hit a hydro pole. The driver attempted to flee the scene, but was quickly apprehended.

The driver was taken to hospital for minor injuries. The hydro pole was split in half, with wires draping over the intersection.

A few hours later, at approximately 2:30 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 26. police were called to a single-vehicle rollover at Simcoe Street and Coates Road East in Scugog.

A 45-year-old male of Olympia Way in Whitby has been charged with failure to stop for police, impaired operation of a motor vehicle, exceeding blood-alcohol content and dangerous driving in connection with the first incident.

A 21-year-old male of Olive Avenue in Oshawa has been charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle, exceeding blood-alcohol content and driving with a blood alcohol content over zero as a young driver.
